City Seeks Ideas and Volunteers for Otay Mesa Community Plan Update
Community Meeting will be held in Otay Mesa on Nov. 7

SAN DIEGO – The City Planning Department will facilitate a town meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 7, that will focus on an update of the Otay Mesa Community Plan. The general public, especially members of the Otay Mesa community, is encouraged to attend the meeting that will be held at the AMC 24 Palm Promenade Theaters.

"The Otay Mesa community plan has not been overhauled since 1981," said Maxx Stalheim, a senior planner with the City. "The City is looking for civic-minded citizens who will participate in the planning process." He added that the City is working closely with the Otay Mesa Community Planning Group on the project.

The Otay Mesa planning area encompasses approximately 5,800 acres within the City of San Diego, and is bounded by the Otay River Valley on the north, the U.S.-Mexico border on the south, and by Interstate 805 on the west. It is anticipated that this area will be the future home of 35,000 residents and one of the major employment centers in the City.

A community plan defines the goals and policies for the future development of the planning area. The policies describe how the community will function and look, and determines where residents will live and work and where children will attend school and play. The policies also identify areas of habitat preservation. The update planning process is an opportunity to take a fresh look at the future of Otay Mesa.
