Most City Offices and Facilities to be Closed on Labor Day Changes Scheduled for Refuse Pickup and Parking Meter Enforcement
SAN DIEGO - All City of San Diego offices and most City facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. Due to the holiday, refuse and recyclables will be picked up one day later than normal each day of the week. For example, items normally collected on Monday, Labor Day, will be picked up on Tuesday, and Friday's refuse will be collected Saturday. The collection schedule will return to normal Monday, September 9. Miramar Landfill will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Metered and time zone parking will not be enforced on September 2, 2002, but all other parking restrictions will remain in effect and subject to enforcement, especially restricted parking zones in the beach areas, and those under the jurisdiction of the San Diego Unified Port District. The Police Department recommends arriving early if you plan to go to any of the City's beaches over the Labor Day weekend. Parking lots are filled and available street parking usually is taken by 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. The Central library and all other branch libraries will be closed. Book drops will remain open at all library locations. City recreation centers will be closed. However all swimming pools and both Torrey Pines and Balboa Municipal golf courses will be open. With regard to San Diego City Lakes, El Capitan, Hodges, Miramar, Murray, Sutherland, Lower and Upper Otay will be open for fishing. San Vicente will be open for water-skiing and wakeboarding. For information on the operating hours of the City's lakes, call (619) 465-3474. |
