Applications Now Available for $21 Million in Funding from City of San Diego's Community Development Block Grant and Social Services Programs for FY 2004

SAN DIEGO - Approximately $21 million in funding is now available for nonprofits and other eligible organizations that provide services and projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents in the City of San Diego.

Each year, the City of San Diego receives grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to dedicate services and public infrastructure projects to low- and moderate-income residents. The City makes available a portion of the funds to eligible organizations through both the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Social Services. Separate applications must be submitted for each program to be eligible to receive the funds.

The City's Community and Economic Development Department will hold a workshop to provide an overview of the Social Services application on Jan. 14, 2003, at the Mission Valley Branch Library. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Social Services Contract Administrator, Shirley Reid at (619) 533-5974 or sreid@sandiego.gov. The submittal deadline for Social Services applications is 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2003.

A technical assistance workshop will not be held for CDBG. The submittal deadline for CDBG applications is 5:00 p.m. on February 7, 2003.

Interested organizations may receive applications and supporting documents for both the Social Services and Community Development Block Grant programs by calling the Community and Economic Development Department at (619) 236-5990.
