City Manager Appoints Oral Interview Panel to Assist Police Chief Recruitment
New Chief to Be Selected and Submitted for Confirmation by the End of
July
SAN DIEGO... City Manager Michael Uberuaga today announced a committee
he has appointed to interview candidates being considered for the new
Chief of Police.
The 22-member oral interview panel
(PDF: 54K) represents a cross-section of the community, law enforcement,
and other professionals. Upon completing the interviews, the panel will
make recommendations to the City Manager.
I am seeking a collaborative leader with a decisive management
style, a commitment to community policing principles and practices, and
a proven ability to work in a multi-cultural environment while managing
a respectful workplace, City Manager Uberuaga said. The oral
interview panel will provide critical insight and recommendations about
the top candidates that will help select the best Police Chief for the
City of San Diego.
The City Manager made the announcement in a memorandum
to the Mayor and City Council (PDF: 39K) that listed the members of
the oral interview panel and also provided an update on the status of
the national recruitment process.
Mr. Uberuaga and Assistant City Manager Lamont Ewell will also interview
all the top candidates. All interviews should be concluded by July 21,
and the City Manager will submit the Police Chief designates name
to the City Council for consideration of confirmation by the end of July.
