Changes in City of San Diego Services Scheduled for Holidays
All City Offices Will Be Closed on Dec. 24 & 25, Dec. 31 & Jan. 1

SAN DIEGO - - All City of San Diego offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of Christmas and New Year's Day.

Each year, City employees can voluntarily take time off without pay on "furlough days" during the holidays to reduce the City's operating costs. Dec. 27 and Dec. 29-31 have been designated as this year's furlough days. Employee participation in the program will reduce staffing levels in a number of departments. Citizens are urged to call or visit City offices before or after the holiday period to transact business or inquire about specific services.

Other holiday schedule changes for the City are as follows:

• Public Safety. Public safety operations such as fire suppression, lifeguard services, and police patrol services will be fully staffed through the holiday period; police investigative services will operate with minimal staffing.
  
  
• City Clerk's Office. The City Clerk's Office will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23, and Thursday, Dec. 30.
  
  
• Recreation Centers, Golf Courses, and Lakes: Torrey Pines, Balboa, and Mission Bay municipal golf courses will remain open on the holidays during the following times:
  
  Dec 24 - open all day, 6 am to 5 pm
  Dec 25 - open at 6 am, close 3 pm
  Dec 31 - open all day, 6 am to 5 pm
  Jan 1 - open all day, 6 am to 5 pm

All pools and recreation centers will be closed December 24 - 25, and December 31 -January 1, 2005. All pools and recreation centers will open again on January 2, 2005. Hours of operation vary during the holiday period; please call individual recreation centers and pools in advance. For information about the operating hours of the City's lakes, call 619-465-3474.

• Parking Meters: City parking meters will not be enforced on Dec. 24 & 25 or Dec. 31 & Jan. 1. All other parking restrictions will be in effect and enforced on those days.
  
  
• Refuse and Recycling Collection/Landfill: Collection crews will pick up trash, recycling and greenery on the City-observed holidays, Friday Dec. 24 and Friday Dec. 31. No trash, recycling or greenery will be collected on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. The Miramar Landfill will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the City-observed holidays, Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday Dec. 31. It will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The landfill will open Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004 and Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 3, the Landfill will return to its regular operating schedule.
  
  
• Permits and Plan Review: The downtown Development Services Center will be closed to the public from Dec. 24-31. On Dec. 23 and from Dec. 27-30, limited permit issuance and inspections will be available from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Development Services Department's Inspection Services Division, 9601 Ridgehaven Court, Suite 220, 858-492-5070. Inspections are scheduled through the InspectionLine Service at 858-581-7111. Permits requested through the PermitFax or online SimplEpermit will be issued from Dec. 27-30, however there may be a delay. Customers anticipating a need for construction plan review, permits or a review of property construction records or zoning between Dec. 24 and Jan. 1 are urged to complete the process before Dec. 24. This especially applies to customers who need records or permits to complete real estate transactions or other work by Dec. 30, 2004.
  
  
• Community Service Centers. All Community Service Centers will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 2.
