Awards of Excellence for Historic Preservation
SAN DIEGO - The Planning Department Historical Resources Board will present their annual "Awards of Excellence for Historic Preservation" on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Historical Resources Board meeting scheduled for 1 p.m.
For the past several years, the Historical Resources Board has recognized those who have shown a strong dedication to historic preservation. The awardees are selected by the members of the Historical Resources Board and receive recognition in the following categories: Rehabilitation, Cultural Studies and Outreach, Individuals, Public Agency, Archaeology and Landscape.
This year's recipients are: Gordon Hattersley III, for his excellent rehabilitative work on the 1887 Britt Scripps House; Victor Nuñez, for his work as a city employee in the Neighborhood Code Compliance Department on the Sherman Heights Historic District; Chris Lafornara, for his excellent rehabilitation of the 1869 Bay View Hotel (currently known as the Palms Hotel); and former Senator Jim Mills, for his many contributions to the cause of historic preservation including the Mills Act Property Tax Reduction Benefit and the State Historic Building Code.
This week's Historical Resources Board meeting will take place at the Wells Fargo building, 401 B Street, fourth floor. The awards will be given before the start of the meeting at 1 p.m.
