Sherman Alexie, winner of The National Book Award for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian. He is an award-winning poet and filmmaker and a Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Indian. He was recently named one of Granta's Best of the Young American Novelists. Alexie is the author of The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, which served as the basis the film Smoke Signals that premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. His second book for young adults, Radio Active Love Song will be out in 2009.

After his meteoric rise through the pack hierarchy he attended art school in Dover, New Jersey, where he majored in animation and canine studies. Heeding a new call of the wild after graduation, he moved to a concrete forest better known as New York. After several years of animating everything from dancing frogs to cat litter odor, he decided to move to California with his blushing bride (human not wolf).
He now lives a vampiric existence creating books for children during the dead of night. He enjoys spending time with his family (the before mentioned bride and his two feral boys), playing his ukulele and writing about himself in the third person.
