Two year, two country study of 157 people. Read about the Honduran women raising grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins as a consequence of transnational family relationships and responsibilities. And learn about the efforts to help other abandoned children of the community left alone. The difficulty of "motherwork" from a distance and for those "other-mothers" caring for the children is explained and portrayed.
Families Across Borders: The Effects of Migration on Family Members Remaining at Home by Alexis Silver, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This study examines the effects of immigration on the emotional well-being of migrants' family members remaining in country of origin with particular focus on Mexico. Repercussions of migration resound in both the home and host communities.
