Sarah sleuths again in The Natural Selection. The murder of a college professor leads Sarah to the Scopes "monkey" trial where Darwin's theory of evolution is under fire. This socially and politically relevant historical mystery includes actual courtroom excerpts and vividly portrays the Scopes trial's central figures: John Scopes, William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow, and especially H.L. Mencken.

Related Author talk: Peter Ward
- San Diego State University, exact location and time To Be Announced
This talk is sponsored by San Diego State’s Common Experience, KPBS and the San Diego Public Library
In The Medea Hypothesis, renowned paleontologist Peter Ward proposes a revolutionary and provocative vision of life's relationship with the Earth's biosphere, one that has frightening implications for our future--yet also offers hope. Using the latest discoveries from the geological record, he argues that life might be its own worst enemy. This stands in stark contrast to James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis--the idea that life sustains habitable conditions on earth. In answer to Gaia, which draws on the idea of the "good mother" who nurtures life, Ward invokes Medea, the mythical mother who killed her own children. Could life by its very nature threaten its own existence?
Breathtaking in scope, The Medea Hypothesis is certain to arouse fierce debate and radically transform our worldview. It serves as an urgent challenge to all of us to think in new ways if we hope to save ourselves from ourselves.

The Visitor
The Visitor is a drama that follows Walter Vale, a widowed college professor who unexpectedly crosses paths with two illegal immigrants. Vale, played by Richard Jenkins, travels from his home in Connecticut to New York City for a conference and upon entering his rarely used city apartment, he makes the shocking discovery that a young couple has taken residence there. After leaning that the couple was victimized by a rental scam and has no where to turn, he allows them to stay.

Inheritance
Imagine watching Schindler's List and knowing the sadistic Nazi camp commandant played by Ralph Fiennes was your father. Inheritance is the story of Monika Hertwig, the daughter of mass murderer Amon Goeth. Hertwig has spent her life in the shadow of her father's sins, trying to come to terms with her "inheritance." She seeks out Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, who was enslaved by Goeth and who is one of the few living eyewitnesses to his unspeakable brutality. The women's raw, emotional meeting unearths terrible truths and lingering questions about how the actions of our parents can continue to ripple through generations.
