Parent-Teacher Involvement

Class of young children sitting on the floor.At a minimum, meet with your child's homeroom teacher. By consulting with your child's teacher, you'll learn about the things that you can do at home to reinforce your child's learning experiences at school.

You might also consider volunteering at your child's school. This is a great way to participate in your child's education and to make connections with other parents, who can be an invaluable source of support and information. If your child is not comfortable with you helping out in his or her classroom, you can always help out in another classroom.

Finally, think about joining your local Parent Teachers Association (PTA). You will find that there is an active PTA associated with just about every public school in San Diego County. Your child's school should be able to give you the contact information, but you can also find your school's PTA through the National PTA Web site (see below).

A click on the link "For Parents" will give you access to the latest school news, district-wide curriculum standards for every grade level, and information about available parent support resources (including the "Parent Involvement and Support Department").

San Diego City Schools' Educational Technology Department

While mostly intended for professional educators, this site can give parents a better idea of how San Diego City Schools are working to integrate education technology into the classroom.

San Diego County Office of Education

Find out who is on the San Diego County Board of Education and which board member represents your district. Click on "Schools & Districts" to find links to every school district in San Diego County.
