Communicating

With the advent of the Internet, computers became excellent communication devices. Today computer-based communication programs range in complexity from basic text e-mail to online video conferencing. Your child will most likely learn to use e-mail, but may also be required to master more advanced computing skills.

Select a question below to learn more about communication. Use the navigation to the left to learn about other general technology uses.

Where can I learn how to use e-mail, instant messaging, etc.?

Your San Diego Public Library has many books on basic computing and Internet use, as do all public libraries. Additionally, the computer lab at the downtown San Diego location offers classes on basic computing (including such topics as the Internet and word processing). Call the main library for more information.

The following Web sites offer basic Internet and e-mail instruction:
http://liblearn.osu.edu/tutor/ (general) or http://liblearn.osu.edu/tutor/les9/ (e-mail basics)
