Preparing Portfolios

As technologies become more common in classrooms, teachers are beginning to require that students prepare portfolios as one way of showing work that the student has done. Often, these portfolios are prepared using technologies. Since portfolios are relatively new concepts in many schools, as a parent you may have questions such as:

What is an electronic portfolio?

Electronic portfolios are selective and purposeful collections of student work made available on the WWW. Portfolios focus on the students' reflections on their own work. They are records of learning, growth, and change. They provide meaningful documentation of students' abilities. Electronic portfolios provide information to students, parents, teachers, and members of the community about what students have learned or are able to do. They represent a learning history.
