Some Useful Internet Sites: Social Sciences Section

Business and Stocks

 * Bloomberg Online
This is a great all-in-one source for financial and business information. It gives daily up-dates on market indices such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, Nasdaq, etc. It includes U. S. Treasury yields curves, currency rates, commodity prices, a mortgage calculator, an educational calculator, and a currency converter giving foreign exchange rate conversion for over 215 countries.
 * Hoover's Online
This site offers company descriptions for over 10,000 businesses. Searches can be done by company name, ticker symbol, keyword, location, or sales. It provides industry overviews and an excellent link to search for stocks by criteria.
 * StockMaster
A good site to track and chart the daily stock price for the NYSE, AMEX, and OTC stocks and mutual funds. Stock prices are posted after 1:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

 * Websites include Career Mosaic; Monster Board; and Online Career Center.

Government and Law

 * FindLaw
A good source for tracking U.S. laws and bills. It provides access to U.S. laws, cases, and codes, searchable by keyword or number. It also links to state constitutions and codes as well as municipal codes. Access FindLaw California at this site.
 * U.S. Federal Government Agencies
This site links to federal agencies on the Internet, including executive, legislative and judicial branches as well as independent and quasi-official agencies; includes full-text of Supreme Court decisions, current Congressional bills, the Congressional Record and the United States Code.
 * U.S. House of Representatives
Links at this site include a directory of Representatives; roll call votes; and annual Congressional schedules. Searchers may access full-text copies of the U.S. Code, as well as legislative bills by topic, bill number, or title. The Congressional Records for the 104th and 105th Congress are available here, as well as committee reports by topic or committee name.
 * U.S. Senate
The Senate website lists senators by name, state, and internet address; it also provides links to FAQs; statistics; committees; senate history; and related sites.

Charities, Real Estate, Scholarships, and Statistics

 * National Charities Information Bureau
This site is helpful for evaluating national charitable organizations. The NCIB's stated purpose is "to promote informed giving and charitable integrity." It evaluates over 400 national charities according to several criteria, including use of funds, annual reporting, and accountability.
 * Homebuying Net
You may search for homes by area, price, and desired features as well as for realtors by area or specialty.
 * Financial Calculators
Over 100 financial calculators covering business, personal finance, student lending and more.
 * Scholarstuff
This database lists colleges and universities worldwide with links to the College Board homepage; public and private financial aid resources; testing dates for SATs, PSATs, AP Examinations, GREs, LSATs, etc.
 * Statistical Abstract of the United States
This site furnishes some of the most frequently requested statistical information from the government reference source, The Statistical Abstract of the United States. Listed in tabular format, statistics are provided on such subjects as population, transportation, employment, housing, monthly economic indicators, state rankings, etc.
