Services for Children, Teens, and Young Adults
The San Diego Public Library offers a wide array of services to children, teens and young adults through the
Children's Room at the Central Library and its 35 branch libraries. No matter where you live in the city, there
is a Library in your community.
Many of the City's libraries have a special staff for these services, called a Youth Services Librarian. When you
contact one of the City's libraries, ask for them for special assistance.
Please call your local community Library, or the Central
Library's Children's Room at (619) 236-5838, to find out what kinds of reading programs, story times, special
events, homework assistance, and other special services are
being offered. Every Library has a large collection of picture books, easy readers, fiction and non-fiction,
videocassettes, audiocassettes, DVDs, and CD-ROMs for all children, teens, and young adults.
The Central Library downtown has a teen center, called Teen Space, located on the second floor. Call (619) 238-6675 for more
information.
The Library's annual Summer Reading Program is a fun
time of special events, contests and reading adventure. Our Kid's Corner
page has links to various web sites with fun activities and information.
Please visit the Isabel Schon International Center for Spanish Books for Youth. This collection provides information about high-quality books in Spanish for children and adolescents published around the world as well as noteworthy books in English about Latinos.
Circulating Memberships - Check out great local attractions, like The New Children's Museum through a circulating family membership. Go to at any branch library or reserve it through the online catalog.
See the Library's Latest Additions lists for new books and other
materials we have added to our collections for children, teens, and young adults - as well as for adults.
Public access computers provide homework support for students under 14. Internet searching on a filtered terminal is available in every Library. Sites suitable for use by children and their parents have been identified by Library staff members. Learn more about Internet Safety for Kids.
