 San Diego is a city that celebrates special events. From
major conventions and international sports events to
community based festivals, the City of San Diego is proud to
host hundreds of events each year.
The City of San Diego Office of Special Events provides a
number of event related services. The primary function of
the office is to provide permits
for events that occur on public property. Through our one
stop permitting process, an event organizer can work with
the City to plan all aspects of their event that relate to
the use of public property. Typical events in which the
Office of Special Events becomes involved include runs,
walks, triathalons, festivals and parades. For a complete

Representatives from the Office of Special Events are
also actively involved in seeking and submitting bid
proposals to bring major events to San Diego. Once a major
event is secured, the Special Events Office serves as the
liaison between the event organizer, host committee,
community, and city departments.
Examples of such major national and international events
that have been, or will soon occur, in San Diego include the
America's Cup, the World's Cup of Sailing, Major League
Baseball's All Star Game, the Republican National Convention
and Super Bowl XXXII.
Commercial event organizers and convention meeting
planners also work with the Office of Special Events to
create unique venues that serve their audience and client
needs while providing revenue sharing opportunities for the
City of San Diego.
