Pollution Prevention Programs
Industrial/Commercial
The City of San Diego is taking proactive steps to protect water quality by preventing pollutants from entering our rivers, creeks, bays, and ocean, where our children play. Because everything that washes into the storm water conveyance system flows untreated into these waters, the City and State require businesses to implement measures to prevent pollutants from entering the system.
Industrial/Commercial facilities that have the potential to contribute pollutants to the storm water conveyance system, are considered a high-priority and are required to undergo annual storm water inspections by the City of San Diego. These inspections are mandated by the Municipal Storm Water Permit (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System NPDES No. CAS0108758, Order No. 2001-01) and are conducted in accordance with the NPDES General Permit that is administrated by the State Water Resources Control Board for industrial activities (Permit No. CAS000001, Order No. 97-03-DWQ). In addition, the City of San Diego regulates discharges to the storm water conveyance system through the Municipal Code (§43.03).
