Pollution Prevention Programs
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Division
In 2001, the City mobilized to make clean water a priority. Accordingly, the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Division was given the lead in coordinating the City's clean water efforts.
The goal of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Division is to improve the quality of our recreational waters and reduce beach and bay posting and closures resulting from contamination, enforce the City's Municipal Code, and achieve compliance with California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region, Order 2001-01, National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System Permit.
In fiscal year 2002, the Storm Water Program embarked on a multi-year, multi-faceted approach that relies upon enforcement, education, institutional change, collaborative watershed management, water quality monitoring and analysis, and sound engineering solutions as cornerstones to success. The sources of pollution that must be controlled and eliminated result from urbanization and life and business choices people and commerce make daily. It is the strategy of this Program to provide good information and resources to residents, commerce and industry that will support and encourage better and more informed choices that, when coupled with innovative infrastructure and policy solutions, will improve San Diego's water quality.
Think Blue, San Diego!
