Black Mountain Road Pipelines ProjectProject DescriptionThis project consists of two pipelines, a drinking water line and a reclaimed water pipeline.Drinking Water LineAs part of an overall upgrade and improvement program to the City's water system the City of San Diego Water Department is planning to install a new transmission water pipeline in the Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa and Rancho Penasquitos areas. Presently, water is supplied to the northern part of the City via the existing Rancho Bernardo Pipeline No. 1, a 36-inch pipeline originally installed in 1964.The new pipeline will extend from the Miramar Water Treatment Plant to the Rancho Bernardo Water pump Station, located in Rancho Penasquitos. The alignment is planned to travel within portions of the Scripps Ranch Boulevard, Mira Mesa Boulevard, Westview Parkway, Westmore Road, Black Mountain Road and Twin Trails Drive. The entire pipeline is about five miles in length and between 42 and 48 inches in diameter. Construction Start: Summer 2001 Construction Complete: 2003 Project Benefits
Project NeedThis project is designed to move additional locally treated water from the Miramar Water Treatment Plant to the Rancho Bernardo Pump Station to supply the northern region of the City.Estimated Project Cost: The total project cost is estimated to be $17 million and is funded by water rates, revenue bonds and capacity charges. Reclaimed Water PipelineProject DescriptionAs part of the City of San Diego Water Department's Capital Improvements Program, a reclaimed water pipeline will be installed along Black Mountain Road between Carroll Canyon Road and Mira Mesa Boulevard. The pipeline will then be installed in parallel alignment to the Rancho Bernardo Pipeline No. 2 from Mira Mesa Boulevard and Black Mountain Road to Twin Trails Road.The entire pipeline is about 3.5 miles in length and 24 to 36 inches in diameter. This project will run concurrently with the installation of Rancho Bernardo Pipeline No. 2.
