Deerfield Water Pump Station and Related PipelinesProject Description
New Pump Station The new Deerfield Water Pump Station will replace the existing Hillandale Water Pump Station. The Hillandale Pump Station, built in 1974 is located underground, resulting in maintenance difficulties, in addition its components are older and in need of replacement. Working with the community to create a facility that will complement the local area, the pump station will feature an "art wall" that will be visible from Mission Gorge Road. The wall will reflect the theme of the Mission Trails Park and elements of the wall will symbolize the rich history of the area. New Pipeline An integral component of the Deerfield Pump Station project is a new pipeline, which is planned to connect the pump station to the existing water supply and delivery system. The pipeline route will start at the new pump station, travel south on Deerfield, east on Hillandale, northeast on Doreen and south on Jackson Drive to Park Ridge Boulevard where it will connect to the existing system. Due to geologic considerations in the area a complete geological study was conducted in 1998 to ensure the pipeline route is stable. The geological study concluded the pipeline route is properly supported and is stable. An additional part of the pipeline extends west on Hillandale Drive from Deerfield Street to the existing Hillandale Pump Plant, and another segment will travel about 2,000 feet east on Navajo Road from the intersection at Golfcrest Drive. Town View Lane Pipeline Another component of the project is the replacement of the existing water pipeline that travels from the Hillandale Pump Plant to Town View Lane at the top of the hill. The existing pipeline has been subject to breaks. A thorough environmental evaluation has been conducted to assess any environmental impacts that would result from construction. All impacts will be mitigated and the disturbed area will be revegitated when construction is complete. The Town View Lane pipeline area is located on a slope. Due to geologic considerations in the area a complete geologic study was conducted to ensure the slope was stable for construction. The study concluded the slope is stable. Construction Start: Fall 1999 Construction Complete: Spring 2001 Project BenefitsPump Station The Deerfield Water Pump Station will provide water to the San Carlos area and will be located above ground at the northwest corner of the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and Deerfield Street. The new station will feature state-of-the-art equipment and technology, and will be able to pump 9000 gallons of water per minute. The Deerfield station will provide enhanced local water service and system reliability. The Town View Lane Pipeline, will provide greater system reliability and enhanced service pressures for the area. Project NeedThe new Deerfield Water Pump Station will replace the existing Hillandale Water Pump Station, built in 1974. The Hillandale Water Pump Station is located underground making maintenance difficult. In addition its components are older and in need of replacing. The existing Town View Lane Pipeline has been subject to breaks. Estimated Project Cost: $4.38 million For more information on this project or any CIP project, please contact us. |
