2015 Waste No Water Film Contest

Photo of San Diegans Waste No Water Film Contest

This year's Waste No Water student film contest, which challenges high school and college students to submit public service announcements championing water conservation, took on new meaning amid a statewide drought and heightened water restrictions. Students took to their cameras to craft important 30-second films to help spread the word about why wasting water just isn't cool.

With 51 entries screened, 10 finalists were selected to be premiered on May 20th at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park, in the IMAX theater. Students walked the red carpet on their way in, then viewed all 10 films with the winners announced at the end.

The winning film is annually shown at local theaters, including Mission Valley and Plaza Bonita AMC Theaters, as well as the Mira Mesa Edwards theater, as a public service announcement before feature presentations. Winners also receive generous prize packages donated by local businesses.

The contest is open to all high school and college students in the cities of San Diego, Coronado and Imperial Beach. The competition provides the City with an excellent way to engage students directly on the importance of water conservation and drought. Check this website later in the year for details and entry form information for the 2016 contest.
