Contest Theme
The theme for the 2010 Poster Contest is: Waste No Water
Saving water is more important than ever. Did you know that a leaky faucet can waste 100 gallons of water a day? Or that running a sprinkler for two hours consumes 500 gallons? Below are some tips on how you can be a responsible water-user. Can you think of more ways to save?
- Beautify your home with native plants that require less water.
- Check your indoor water-using appliances for leaks.
- Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
- Use a broom to remove leaves and debris from driveways and sidewalks.
Currently, more than 1.2 million people live in San Diego. We import up to 90 percent of our water from Northern California and the Colorado River. We use our water for drinking, bathing, cooking and cleaning. We also use our water for swimming, fishing, boating and gardening, but we must remember to conserve water because it is a limited resource!
Now is the time to get everyone involved in water conservation because the future of our water supply is in our hands! Take the time to think about the ways you use water every day and look for ways you can use water less.
It is time to make the most of our water before it goes down the drain; it is time to reduce our use!
