Water System
The Public Utilities Department is dedicated to providing customers with a safe and reliable water supply, and quality customer service in an environmentally sensitive manner. The Department oversees a municipal water system that includes:
- More than 3,300 miles of distribution pipeline
- Nine reservoirs with a total capacity of 415,000 acre-feet.
- Three water treatment plants
- 29 distribution reservoirs and standpipes
- 130 different pressure zones with 49 pumps
- More than 276,000 metered service connections
- More than 25,000 fire hydrants
- An average of 200 million gallons of water delivered daily to customers
- 1.3 million customers in the cities of San Diego, Del Mar, Coronado and Imperial Beach
