DEERFIELD WATER PUMP STATION IS COMPLETE
Local Residents Celebrate At Ribbon Cutting

SAN DIEGO - Local residents joined Mayor Dick Murphy, City Councilmember Jim Madaffer and the City of San Diego Water Department in celebrating the completion of the Deerfield Water Pump Station at a community ribbon cutting ceremony on May 31.

The Deerfield Water Pump Station is located at the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and Deerfield Street in the San Carlos area of San Diego. The combined $8 million facility and related pipelines will provide enhanced water service reliability to the area and replace the outdated Hillandale Water Pump Station, built in 1974. The new pump station features state-of-the-art equipment and technology that can pump up to 9000 gallons of water per minute.

The Water Department worked with the neighboring community to create a facility that would compliment the local area. The pump station features an "art wall" that reflects the theme of the Mission Trails Regional Park and includes elements that symbolize the rich history of the area.

"Work on this project began several years ago and has involved a tremendous amount of community input. We are pleased this vital infrastructure project is completed and we are happy to celebrate this milestone with local residents," said City Councilmember Jim Madaffer.

Another part of the construction project involved building two new water transmission pipelines. The first pipeline connects the pump station to the existing water supply and delivery system. The second pipeline, named the Town View Lane Pipeline, replaces an existing pipeline that had been subject to breaks.

This project is part of the City of San Diego Water Department's Capital Improvements Program, a City-wide water system upgrade and expansion program designed to ensure a cost-effective, safe and reliable water supply for years to come.
