Water Department Donates Proceeds From Annual Golf Tournament
San Diego, CA...The City of San Diego Water Department will donate $5,000 raised from a fundraising golf tournament to Oak Park Elementary School for enhancement of their new student literacy program and other student needs. On Thursday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the school's "Literacy Day" Assembly, Deputy Mayor George Stevens from Council District 4 and Senior Deputy City Manager George Loveland will be on hand to present the Big Check to the school's administrators.
"We chose Oak Park Elementary School to be our benefactor for the last two years because they are located down the street from our operations facility," said Mark Stone, Deputy Director for the Water Department Operations Division. "Children at the school see our trucks driving up and down the street when they are on the playground and we wanted to give something back to them and the surrounding community."
The department hosted its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament in June at the Balboa Park Municipal Golf Course where over 144 players participated in raising the monies for the school. Water Department employees and friends took personal time off to participate in the fundraising event and help support educational partnership opportunities. Over 50 sponsors generously helped support the event with in-kind and financial contributions.
