New Voucher Program will help San Diegans
save money on ultra-low flush toilets
San Diego, CA -- In an effort to make buying an ultra-low flush toilet (ULFT) as easy and convenient as possible, the City of San Diego Water Department will begin offering a $75 voucher per residential toilet. The Voucher Program, which is being run in partnership with the San Diego County Water Authority, begins August 29, 2001.
Previously, the Water Department offered rebates on ULFTs. The switch to the Voucher Program, in which the participant obtains the voucher before buying a ULFT, allows for up-front savings by reducing the initial cash outlay.
"A point-of-purchase discount will deliver a higher level of service to our customers and will enable the customer to obtain a new toilet without having to pay full price," said City of San Diego Water Resources Manager Luis Generoso. "We project that the Voucher Program will produce an increase in participation from both residential and commerical customers who were discouraged by the initial out-of-pocket expense."
Voucher-qualifying toilets must use 1.6 gallons of water per flush (GPF) and replace fixtures using more than 3.5 GPF. Toilets installed as part of new construction or bathroom additions do not qualify, nor do reconditioned toilets.
Commercial properties can receive a $95 voucher per ULFT. Also, the City of San Diego will recycle your old toilet free of charge. To request a voucher, to get more information about the Voucher Program, or to get your toilet recycled, call the Voucher Program Hotline at 1-800-986-4538.
