Derek R. Patel, M.D.

In addition to his teaching and research duties, Derek Patel is a practicing clinical physician specializing in gastroenterology at the University of California San Diego Medical Center, conducting inpatient and outpatient consultations and procedures. He is licensed in the State of California and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine Gastroenterology. As a faculty member, he serves on the Pharmacy and therapeutics and Gastroenterology Education Committees. Dr. Patel has been recognized by his peers by being honored as the 2005 recipient of the National Center of Leadership in Academic Medicine. He is the author or co-author of numerous professional peer reviewed journal articles.
