San Diego Public Library is always looking for opportunities to provide better services at a better value. We believe cloudLibrary will provide a more user-friendly interface, more availability of items and will provide access to additional titles. The cloudLibrary is app-based and has a much simpler process to check out and download material.
This switch will provide significant cost savings to the library in terms of platform and support charges. These savings will be used to purchase additional content and will allow us to continue providing this free service to our patrons.
The OverDrive titles will be available on cloudLibrary starting April 15, 2017.
No, holds will not be transferred to cloudLibrary. You will be able to place holds on titles after they have transferred to cloudLibrary.
Our current collection, including audiobooks, will be transferred to the new platform with a few exceptions. The vast majority of our collection will be moved to new licenses within the cloudLibrary system. The exceptions are items that were purchased previously but are no longer available for licensing due to publisher restrictions on availability.
The cloudLibrary platform works with tablet-style Kindle devices such as the Kindle Fire. Unfortunately, the cloudLibrary system does not currently work with e-ink Kindle devices, and we recognize that there will be an impact to individuals who only have a Kindle e-ink eReader.
San Diego Public Library has eReader clinics in which patrons can bring their devices in and have staff work with them to download books. View the current schedule and list of locations where clinics are available:
Yes, you can. Go to “My Books” and click on the List View in the upper right hand corner. Once in list view, click on the “return” button.
