Commission on Police Practices

Message from the Chair

Dear Citizens of San Diego:

I am honored to serve as Chair of the City of San Diego Citizen's Review Board on Police Practices (CRB).

The purpose of our board is to ensure that serious citizen complaints against San Diego police officers, officer-involved shootings, and in-custody deaths are investigated thoroughly, completely and fairly. The CRB also has the critical role of recommending and advocating for improved policies within the San Diego Police Department and reviewing the administration of discipline in cases where San Diego police officers have disobeyed policies and procedures.

Our board is made up of 23 dedicated members of the San Diego Community who spend 30-40 hours a month, on a volunteer basis, attending meetings, reviewing complaints, case files, witness statements, video/audio evidence, and meeting with San Diego Internal Affairs staff to determine whether officers were in compliance with San Diego Police Department Policies and Procedures. We are proud of the work we do for the community and we strive to improve our processes on a continual basis.

We invite the public to attend and provide public comment at our open session meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

Oversight of the San Diego Police Department and ensuring that officers are held accountable when complaints are sustained is a worthy cause and I am proud to be a part of the board that is charged with safeguarding the trust between the police and the communities they serve.

Respectfully,

Lisa Sorce
Board Chair
