Councilmember Lightner has just been informed that the U.S. Department of Energy has extended its deadline for applications for Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grants (EECBG). Therefore, the City's EECBG Ad Hoc Committee has also extended its due date for submission of candidate projects. Councilmember Lightner wants you to know that you may continue to submit to us new or revised ideas for candidate projects (use the "Project Activity Worksheet") until the end of the day on Thursday, July 16.
Councilmember Lightner is asking for community input for possible projects to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. Memo to Councilmember Lightner EECBG Projects
The City of San Diego anticipates receiving approximately $12.5 million in EECBG funds and has formed an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy - Ad Hoc Committee to review the potential uses of these funds. Individuals with ideas may present them to Councilmember Lightner by filling out a completed copy of the " Project Activity Worksheet" and emailing it to her at [email protected]. She will then submit them to the Ad Hoc Committee for consideration.
Only projects for a minimum amount of $250,000 will be considered. All projects must be completed by June, 2012. Examples of eligible activities are available online at http://www.eecbg.energy.gov/solutioncenter/eligibleactivities/default.html.
EECBG Program Purpose:
1. Spur economic growth and create/retain jobs
2. Assist state, local and tribal governments in implementing strategies to:
- Reduce fossil fuel emissions;
- Reduce total energy use;
- Improve energy efficiency in the transportation, building, and other appropriate sectors.
Project Activity Worksheets must be submitted by:
5:00 p.m. on July 16, 2009.
