Rules Committee (formerly Charter Review)
In 2015-2016, the Rules Committee met ad-hoc as the Charter Review Committee with the goal of updating the City of San Diego's Charter to make it work better for both our citizens and City departments. Many sections of the Charter were and are outdated, confusing or contradictory, and need to be corrected or updated. Charter Revisions require a vote of the people, so throughout 2015-16, multiple proposals were made to revise, replace and/or remove outdated language. The Committee prepared a package of revision items for the June 2016 ballot which were all approved by the voters. The Committee prepared another package for the November 2016 ballot. The ad hoc Charter Review Committee concluded on May 18, 2016. The Rules Committee reconvened, but will consider clean up Charter work going forward.
