Community Representative

Carrie Shah joins Councilmember Joe LaCava after earning her master’s in International Relations from American University, where she focused on International Development. During her master’s program Carrie completed a practicum working as a water rights and reforestation policy analyst for Costa Rican activists. Carrie received her bachelor’s degree in International Global Studies from UNC-Greensboro. During which, she concentrated on Human Rights and minored in Sociology. Carrie completed a service year with AmeriCorps Vista where she was the outreach coordinator for a digital inclusion project focused on generating internet access for rural public housing families.

Carrie also has non-profit consulting experience working with the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition (SDRCC) to assist mental and behavioral health practitioners in servicing the refugee communities of San Diego. She previously worked with the San Diego Community College District’s PATH Program in preparing community college students from marginalized communities for transfer to UC San Diego.
