Community Representative

Carrie Shah joins Councilmember Joe LaCava with a masters in International Relations from American University, where she focused on International Development. During her master’s program, Carrie completed a practicum working as a water rights and reforestation policy analyst for Costa Rican activists. She received her bachelor’s degree in International Global Studies from UNC-Greensboro. She majored in International Studies with concentrated on Human Rights and minored in Sociology. Carrie also completed a service year with AmeriCorps Vista as an outreach coordinator for a digital inclusion project focused on generating internet access for rural public housing families.

Carrie also has non-profit consulting experience from the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition (SDRCC) where she assisted mental and behavioral health practitioners in servicing the refugee communities of San Diego. She previously worked with the San Diego Community College District’s PATH Program to prepare community college students from marginalized communities for transfer to UC San Diego.
