  • Fourth and Fifth Avenue Bikeways
    • The Fourth and Fifth Avenue Bikeways are in the Final Design phase and is expected to begin construction in Fall 2019. The project consists of separated bikeways and buffered bike lanes connecting Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, and Downtown. The bike lanes and traffic calming measures will be on Fourth and Fifth Avenue from B Street to Washington Street.
  • Olive Street Park
    • For 109 years, the parcel of land at 3rd and Olive has been reserved to become a neighborhood park for Bankers Hill. At Councilmember Ward’s urging, the park planning process was finally initiated and included several community outreach meetings in 2018. With the support of the broader Bankers Hill community, Councilmember Ward successfully advocated for the addition of an observatory overlook into Maple Canyon which will allow a viewing point into one of San Diego’s most beautiful natural canyons and will be the location of San Diego’s first regional AIDS Memorial. The park plan has passed both Uptown Planners and the Parks and Recreation Board and will go to City Council in 2019.
  • ADA Parking on Third Avenue
    • At the request of nearby constituents, a new ADA space was installed on Third Avenue by St. Paul’s Villa. Councilmember Ward, Streets Division Staff and the Uptown Community Parking District worked together to help meet the needs of the local community.
  • Junipero Serra Museum Facility Maintenance
    • The San Diego History Center has been raising funds to improve the Serra Museum building and has started working on the facility maintenance. City Staff and Park and Rec. have approved the work and have been working closely with the History Center to ensure the project’s success.
  • Presidio Park Improvements
    • Park Rangers have been working hard to prepare Presidio Park for the upcoming 250th Commemoration Civic Event. Thanks to their hard work and strong force of volunteers they have been able to successfully work on brush reduction, trail improvements and landscape maintenance throughout the park.
  • El Campo Santo
    • Improvements to El Campo Santo Cemetery have been completed. Thanks to the amazing collaboration of City Archeologist & Historians, Park & Rec. Staff, and descendants of the deceased the wood work around the cemetery was successfully replaced while maintaining its historical accuracy. Selected plaques were also respectfully replaced and protected. The kiosk was refurbished and proudly displays historical information.
  • Addition of 100 new parking spaces
    • Working with the Uptown Community Parking District, Bankers Hill received 100 new parking spaces via parallel to angled parking conversions, helping to alleviate parking congestion in the area.
  • Olive St Park and AIDS Memorial

  • Trash Can at 3rd and Olive Pedestrian Bridge
    • At the request of Bankers Hill Community Group, Councilmember Ward worked with Environmental Services to install a new trash can at the entrance to the 3rd and Olive Pedestrian Bridge.
