  • Water Tower seismic retrofit with graffiti removal

    • The North Park Water Tower has been a community icon since its construction in 1924. A seismic retrofit and graffiti removal was recently completed, returning this community landmark to its former standing.

  • Head-In Parking Conversions bring 132 Parking Spots to North Park

    • The following streets will be converted to head-in or angled parking to maximize parking availability: Myrtle, Gunn, Capps, Polk, Idaho, Ohio, Illinois, Arizona and Kansas.

  • Protected Bike Lanes Coming to 30th Street North Park

    • Following the repaving after the 30th Street Pipeline Replacement, fully protected, Class IV bike lanes will be installed from Juniper Street to Howard Ave. This major North-South route will connect to SANDAG bikeways on Pershing, Landis and Howard. The North Park Planning Committee voted to support this improvement and we will continue to work with the community on implementation.

  • North Park Mini-Park breaking ground this year!

    • After years of anticipation, the North Park Mini-Park will be breaking ground this year and open in late 2020. This year, the City Council approved a Fiscal Year budget that fully funded the development and maintenance of the park.

  • Temporary Median Installed at Mississippi St and El Cajon Blvd

    • Due to the high volume of traffic accidents a temporary median was installed at the intersection of Mississippi Street and El Cajon Blvd. This restricts vehicles to right turn only on Mississippi St to prevent collisions.

  • All-Way Stop Sign Installed at Thorn St and Grimm Ave

    • At the neighbors’ requests an all-way stop sign was installed at the intersection of Thorn St. and Grimm Ave.

  • Mid-City Homeless Outreach Program Funded

    • A coalition of neighborhood organizations gathered funding, including $20,000 from my office to hire a full-time Homeless Outreach Worker to focus on connecting people experiencing homelessness in North Park and City Heights to vital services. To date, our Outreach Worker, hired through People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) has a caseload of 35 individuals and has connected dozens to medical, mental health and shelter opportunities.

  • Dedicated Transit Lane Coming to El Cajon Blvd

    • A collaboration between The Boulevard BIA, MTS, City staff and SANDAG will bring a dedicated transit (bus-only) lane to El Cajon Blvd from Park Blvd to Fairmont. This pilot program is aimed at improving transit speeds and ridership on the 10,000 daily rides along the Boulevard.

  • Park Curfews Implemented

    • At the request of the North Park Recreation Council, curfews from Midnight to 6:00am have been implemented at North Park Recreation Center, Montclair Neighborhood Park, Cedar Ridge and the future North Park Mini-Park.

  • New MTS shelters for University Ave

    • MTS and North Park Main Street worked with Councilmember Ward to deliver eight new bus shelters along University Avenue. These structures will provide commuters a reprieve from the elements as they wait for their bus, along with new waste receptacles and aesthetic improvements.   

  • North Park Seniors

    • North Park Seniors, a 72 affordable housing unit project providing transit-oriented, affordable housing for limited-income seniors has finally been completed.

  • Parking spots for North Park Seniors

    • Additional parking spaces were created for residents of North Park Seniors as well as a three-minute passenger loading zone for residents. Residents, working with Councilmember Ward and City staff made this happen.

  • Saved Toyland Parade

    • The North Park Toyland Parade is one of our community’s most cherished holiday events. When our office heard that it was canceled this last Christmas we worked with North Park Main Street, and City staff to ensure that this tradition would continue. Working with residents Councilmember Ward all made the 55th anniversary of this parade possible!

  • Memorial for 40th Anniversary of PSA 182 Crash

    • Working with the PSA 182 Memorial Committee Councilmember Ward was able to unveil a new memorial plaque honoring those that lost their lives in this tragic crash. Councilmember Ward also proclaimed September 25th, 2018 to be “PSA Flight 182 Celebration of Life Day” in the City of San Diego.

  • Crosswalk at Florida and Upas & Crosswalk at 30th and Dwight, Lincoln, and Polk

    • At the request of Councilmember Ward, city staff installed crosswalks to Florida and Upas, 30th and Dwight, 30th and Lincoln, and 30th and Polk to improve pedestrian safety at key intersections with high use and high risk.
