Councilmember Mark Kersey (District 5)
San Diego deserves a government that matches the region's passion, spurs its innovative spirit, and utilizes the latest information and most current technology available. As a small business owner, Mark is determined to support San Diego's small businesses, which make up 90 percent of the City's companies.
San Diego's location on the Pacific Rim provides unique opportunities that no other City can claim. Mark is helping San Diego businesses tap into those opportunities being a border city provides. Mark also advocates for the completion of the San Ysidro Cross Border Facility as a facility that will compliment the San Diego Lindbergh Field Airport and provide choices to the residents of the City of San Diego and the region.
Metropolitan areas can be drivers of trade. Mark worked with The Brookings Institute to develop a localized export plan that will provide a market assessment and create targeted, integrated exported-related services and strategies to better connect local companies to global customers and finally capitalize on the enormous economic opportunity our border region represents.
San Diego has a dynamic workforce and companies doing amazing work in biotech, medical devices, clean technology and craft brewing. In order to continue attracting innovative companies and the good jobs that they bring, Mark is focused on developing smart regulations, cut the permitting time for small businesses and utilizing technology to move more City services online.
