On the busiest day of the Legislative year, 7th District Councilmember Marti Emerald took time to host a group from San Diego and Imperial Counties Junior Achievement on a tour of the 10th floor of the City Administration Building. It's a long hallway with 8 council offices on both sides of the hallway and on this final day of Council sessions before the legislative break, it was a buzz of activity. This is where the Councilmembers and their staffs conduct the City's business.

Marti understands the importance of mentoring young people and these lucky student-ambassadors really took it all in, asking questions in all the Council offices they visited.

The Junior Achievement has been teaching students K-12 about entrepreneurship and being prepared for the working world since 1950. In addition to learning financial literacy, a must for anyone in the political arena, these youngsters got a glimpse into the real workings of San Diego's city government.

After the tour of the 10th floor, Junior Achievers sat right up-front in Council Chambers to witness the opening of the Council session. Before their visit was over, Marti declared July 28, 2009, to be 2009-2010 Junior Achievement Student Ambassadors Day, complete with an official proclamation.

This special day proved to be not only a great learning experience, a few students may even consider a career serving on the City Council someday.
