The Holidays are here and, amid all the hustle and bustle, it?s time for the San Diego Food Bank?s annual Holiday Food Drive. This year?s need is tremendous. And so many schools, companies, corporations and service organizations are lending a helping hand by collecting non-perishable food which will be distributed along with fresh produce to help individuals and families who would otherwise go without this year.

Look for the Holiday Food Drive big red barrels in locations all over the City, including here at the City Administration Building. If you have business at City Hall over the next few weeks, please bring non-breakable, non-perishable items to help us fill the red barrels for the food drive. The barrels are near the elevators on the 1st floor. We?ll be accepting donations through the end of the year.

The items needed the most are canned meat & tuna, canned soups, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, canned beans, spaghetti, dry cereal, rice, and mac & cheese.

Food and donations raised from the Holiday Food Drive will be distributed through the 350 partner charities which include: churches, food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, low-income day care centers, rehabilitation programs, and senior centers.

You can also mail a monetary donation directly to the food bank and that helps purchase the perishable items, produce, bakery, and dairy items needed to fill out each box. The address is: San Diego Food Bank, 9850 Distribution Ave., San Diego, CA 92121. Learn more about the Food Bank at www.sandiegofoodbank.org
