SAN DIEGO – Today, the City Council voted to support Assembly Bill (AB) 805, County of San Diego: Transportation Agencies, introduced by California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher; which restructures San Diego’s regional transportation agencies, including the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board, also known as the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), and the North County Transit District (NCTD).
Councilmember Georgette Gómez said, “AB 805 improves the accountability and transparency of our region’s transit agencies. The Council’s action today helps ensure fair representation on the SANDAG Board, which affects our region’s public transit and bikeability, while allowing MTS and NCTD the ability to place initiatives before voters to increase revenues and improve the public transit system. AB 805, and the Council’s support, is just another step towards improving the safety for biking and walking around San Diego.”
The California State Assembly passed AB 805 on May 31st, 2017 and sent the proposed bill to California State Senate. On June 14th, the State Senate referred the bill to the Senate Government and Finance Committee and the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee.
