Historical Districts

Many times, buildings that are not significant become important when viewed as part of a larger collection. Typically, residential neighborhoods with high concentrations of similar homes having a common history are candidates for historical districts.

PDF icon San Diego Municipal Code, Chapter 11, Article 3, Division 1, Section 113.0103 defines historical districts as "a significant concentration, linkage, or continuity of sites, buildings, structures, or objects that are united historically, geographically, or aesthetically by plan or physical development and that have a special character, historical interest, cultural or aesthetic value, or that represent one or more architectural periods or styles in the history and development of the City."
