Building Records Request Form

Use this form to request information on records available for properties in the City of San Diego. If you do not see text editing areas below, please email [email protected].

  • What kind of records are available? 
    The City maintains records of construction plans and permits on property dating back to 1955.  To review information dated between 1955 and 1989, please call 619-446-5200 to schedule an appointment to visit our office located on the second floor of 1222 First Ave. For information on permits issued after 1990, you can submit an online request below or call 619-446-5200.
  • Are all records available for a property?
    Not all types of property records may be available, as record procedures and legal requirements have changed over the years. For records other than building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical permits, please visit our office located on the second floor of 1222 First Ave.
  • How long do responses take?
    Replies are emailed within 10 working days. Our records are stored on microfilm. Should you desire a paper copy, it will be mailed to you after the payment is received. The email reply will provide additional information regarding our services.
  • What information is required on the request form?
    Please provide all applicable information. Your name, email address and the property address must be provided to process your request and will only be used to respond to your request.
