Free Backyard Composting Workshops

The City is partnering with the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation to provide you with backyard composting information and tools. Learn from the experts on how to turn your garbage into gold for your garden! You'll discover the different methods of backyard composting, how composting conditions the soil for healthy plants and how you can save money and water.

Master Composter Training

Become an expert in composting, meet new people and participate in interesting events, all while serving your community. The Master Composter course provides training in the art and science of composting, soil management and how to teach it to others. Certification requires attendance once a week at the five-week course and completion of 30 hours of community outreach. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to apply. The course will be held at the Tecolote Canyon Nature Center, 5180 Tecolote Road, San Diego, CA 92110.

Classes will meet Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

  • Week 3 - October 1
  • Week 4 - October 8
  • Week 5 - October 15
