The City of San Diego responds to thousands of 9-1-1 medical emergencies a year. You can improve your chances of avoiding a ride in one of our ambulances by taking time to practice a healthy and safe lifestyle.

What can you do to "think healthy, think safe"? Take a look at the health and safety tips on the following websites:

  • DRIVE SMART, WALK SAFE and BIKE WITH CARE. With the growing number of people in San Diego. it's essential that everyone take time to travel safely. Don't drive aggressively, use your seatbelts, wear your bike helmet and look both ways when crossing the street. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has excellent tips for careful travel.
  • HEALTH AND FITNESS QUESTIONS? The US Department of Health and Human Services has a "Healthfinder" website to help you explore health, fitness and prevention issues.
  • HEART HEALTHY. Learn more about being heart healthy with the American Heart Association. This site also contains vital information on Strokes or "Brain Attacks."
  • SUN SAFETY. Here in sunny San Diego it's important to be sun smart. The American Academy of Dermatology has information on being safe under the sun.
