Emergency & Bridge Shelters - Daily Count

The City of San Diego operates four emergency shelters and three bridge shelters that provide 1,297 beds on a nightly basis which contributes to the 2,040 emergency shelters available citywide.

The purpose of this web page is to provide bed occupancy information as reported by City-funded shelter providers: Alpha Project, Father Joe's Villages (FJV), PATH, Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD), and YWCA. The data shown is the bed count as self-reported by the providers across seven different programs. If a program's bed count is not shown above, then the provider did not report; nonetheless, shelter services were provided.

To fill vacant beds, service providers utilize the Coordinated Entry System (CES). The CES streamlines the intake process and prioritizes housing the most vulnerable people first. To initiate a housing or shelter placement, individuals can contact an assessment site or call 2-1-1 at 858-300-1211. Referrals are through the Coordinated Entry System only.
