City of San Diego Partners with SDG&E to Plant 400 New Trees in City Heights

City Heights is getting greener! The City of San Diego partnered with San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) to plant 400 trees in the Cherokee Point and Corridor neighborhoods in City Heights. The partnership is part of a recent franchise agreement between the City and SDG&E to foster collaboration and make the benefits of trees available to all communities in San Diego. As part of the agreement, SDG&E is funding the planting and the City will water and maintain the new trees to ensure they take root and grow.

The newly planted trees will help the City get closer to reaching its climate action goals. A healthy urban forest also boosts mental health, improves air quality and provides a cooling effect. In fact, urban neighborhoods with mature trees can be up to 11 degrees cooler in the summer than those without trees.
