Still Have Your Christmas Tree? Recycle It
December 28, 2015
Dont trash your tree. The City offers free recycling during daylight hours at 16 drop-off locations through Jan. 23, 2016. Trees can also be picked up curbside for residents with curbside yard waste collection. Last year, approximately 385 tons of Christmas trees were collected during the month-long effort.
Recycling your Christmas tree is consistent with the City\s new zero waste plan and extends the life of the Miramar Landfill, said Darren Greenhalgh, Environmental Services Assistant Director.
At the landfill, the trees are turned into high quality compost, mulch and wood chips. Residents can pick up two cubic yards of this material for free throughout the year.
Commercial loads are not allowed at drop-off locations. Please remove all ornaments, lights and tree stands. For more information call the Recycling Hotline: (858) 694-7000.
