Mayor Faulconer Serves the 10 Millionth Meal for Local Nonprofit Dedicated to Helping Seniors

Mayor Faulconer and County Supervisor Roberts Team Up to Congratulate Serving Seniors for Keeping San Diego Seniors Healthy, Happy and Independent

Monday, November 9, 2015 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego, CA – Among over 175 hungry seniors at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer joined Serving Seniors, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors in poverty live healthy and fulfilling lives, to serve the organization’s 10 millionth meal.

Unfortunately, 2 out of 5 San Diego seniors often choose between paying rent and buying food. For 45 years, Serving Seniors have helped to fight back against these odds by helping San Diego seniors struggling with poverty and hunger. Serving Seniors provides nearly 600,000 meals each year to seniors, as well as “wrap-around” wellness services to take care of senior health, mental health, advocacy and housing needs. With ongoing state and federal budget cuts, Serving Seniors bridges the growing financial gap for seniors who otherwise would have nowhere to turn and provides them with a safety net.
