San Diego - Today the Office of Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer released the following statement on the City's proposed Climate Action Plan.
"Since Mayor Faulconer took office, City staff has been on track to present a Climate Action Plan to the City Council on the same timeframe as was planned by the previous administration," said Craig Gustafson, a Faulconer spokesman. "We agree that climate change is an important issue and we're perplexed that a few council members are trying to politicize this. We've made it very clear that we are committed to an innovative Climate Action Plan that will protect the environment for future generations of San Diegans."
Mayor Faulconer has taken several steps to advance the Climate Action Plan, including:
- Directing City departments to review and comment on the plan as it pertains to their internal operations. This was an important step for such a comprehensive and long-lasting document that did not occur under the previous administration.
- Adding a Sustainability Program Manager to his FY2015 budget who will implement the Climate Action Plan.
