Mayor Faulconer Praises U.S. News & World Report Ranking UC San Diego as 18th Best University

San Diego - Upon receiving news that U.S. News & World Report's first-ever global university and college rankings lists UC San Diego as the 18th best university in the world, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer released the following statement:

"San Diego is a world-class city with world-class institutions and people are taking notice. The City of San Diego is a City of Innovation and that starts with education. Congratulations to the leadership, staff and students at UC San Diego for helping to make our city a top-notch place for learning, innovation and opportunities."

In the inaugural release of U.S. News & World Report's global institutions of higher learning, UC San Diego was one of the five public universities in the United States to place on the top 20 list. The report weighed factors pertaining to research, global and regional reputations, international collaboration and highly-cited papers and doctorates awarded.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the top U.S. colleges for many years, but this is the first list to incorporate universities from around the world. The rankings involved 500 institutions from over 49 countries. Harvard University ranked first and UC San Diego scored highly for publications by professors and how frequently their works are studied.
