Mayor Faulconer Welcomes More than 500 Educators, Nonprofits, & Policymakers to San Diego

Mayor, Arts Leaders Promote Arts Education as a Part of STEM Education & Present 1st Annual STEAM Awards in Makers Quarter

San Diego, CA – As a part of his nationwide effort to highlight innovative San Diego ideas, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer teamed up with Arts and Culture Commission Executive Director Dana Springs to promote the rapidly growing San Diego-based STEAM movement, which involves infusing the “A” for “Arts” into STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs.

Mayor Faulconer promoted STEAM during its 1st Annual STEAM Awards event in Makers Quarter. The event is a part of the STEAMConnect’s 2nd Annual Ascend Conference, which will bring together more than 500 educators, school administrators, nonprofits, business leaders and policymakers from around the U.S., who share a common interest in bridging the arts and STEM in education.
