Faulconer & First Lady Kickoff Breast Cancer Awareness with Susan G. Komen San Diego
Monday, October 5, 2015 - NEWS RELEASE
San Diego, CA – As Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins nationwide, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer joined his wife, Katherine, La Maestra Community Health Centers, Community Health Imaging Centers and Susan G. Komen San Diego to launch a free on-site mobile mammography coach (MMC) or breast cancer exam unit, which will help serve more uninsured or underinsured, minority, immigrant and refugee women across San Diego.
Many of the most underserved women in San Diego face significant barriers to care including transportation, lack of child care and language barriers. The MMC program, through La Maestra Community Health Centers and Community Health Imaging Centers, will address these issues and offer a free on-site mammography and clinical breast exams to qualified women in San Diego and Imperial Counties over 40. The MMC will also help improve access to screening services and reduce the number of late-stage breast cancer diagnosis by reaching women where they live, work and shop.
