Ahead of City Council Budget Vote, Mayor Faulconer Promotes Funding to Boost Internet Access for Underserved San Diego Communities

Mayor, Library Director Join Cox Communications & Time Warner Cable to Announce Plan for Better Internet Access

Thursday, June 4, 2015 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego, CA – Just ahead of the City Council vote on his budget next week, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer and Library Director Misty Jones went to the Malcolm X Branch Library in Southeastern San Diego to promote his budget proposal to help increase opportunities for underserved communities and families by increasing internet bandwidth and download speeds at San Diego public libraries.

Many struggling families do not have the ability to pay for internet service or fast internet. This year, with the adoption of the mayor’s new One San Diego budget, which is currently being reviewed by the City Council, residents will be able to go to public libraries and work on school reports, file important information or apply for a job online at speeds up to four times faster than is currently available.
